The Beverly Hills Diet      StumbleUpon Toolbar

The Beverly Hills Diet takes advantage of the natural chemical reaction of foods when eaten to lose weight. However, the diet is based on the premise that specific food groups should not be eaten together for the body to efficiently burn the calories. The diet, which restricts food intake for the first ten days to nothing but fruits, is not based on any scientific studies. Judy Mazel, the diet’s main author recommends the following diet plan for the duration of 35 days: fruits and noths and butter on days 11-18, and some protein from day 19 until the end of the program.

The program proposes “conscious combining” which requires you to watch every single food item that you eat. The program is strict about mixing certain foods, proteins should only go with proteins, and carbohydrates must only be eaten with carbohydrates.

The diet is extremely restrictive and can cause rapid weight loss. This program is good as a “quick fix” when you need to lose a lot of weight fast for a special event. Aside from the rapid weight loss, the Beverly Hills Diet offers the following benefits:

  1. The diet does not require you to count calories; you can eat as much as you can from the particular food group allowed during the stage of the diet you are in.
  2. However, the lack of variety in the diet will also result in the dieter eating less

There are not a lot of people who stick to this diet because of the following reasons:

  1. During the initial stage where protein intake is restricted, dieter lose lean muscle and not just fat
  2. Rapid weight loss may have adverse effects on your health because it causes stress to your internal organs
  3. The diet is not sustainable and difficult to follow
