Help and Support Through Counselling

13th August, 2009 by Mike

Counselling, whilst once the subject of much scepticism and criticism, is now recognised as a hugely beneficial form of therapy.

The act of discussing problems out loud, without fear of judgement, is in itself a healing and cathartic process. However, with the help of a trained professional, the issues at the heart of the problems can be addressed and dealt with, giving a positive outcome allowing the person to move on with their life, free of what was previously holding them back.

The decision to undertake counselling is not one that anyone takes lightly. Many consider the idea for months or even years before deciding to take the plunge.

The Importance of Omega 3

31st July, 2009 by Mike

Just about every isle in a grocery store contains a variety of products that are packaged with the words: “A good source of Omega-3″ boldly printed on the label. Food manufacturers have discovered that omega-3 sells product. Omega-3 is an essential body fat that is found in every cell in the human body, but the body can’t make enough omega-3 on its own, so our diet plays an important role in supplying enough of these essential fatty acids (EFA) to keep the body functioning properly.

20th July, 2009 by Mike

There are a number of things you can eat and drink, or avoid, which may help curb your hayfever symptoms, including itchy eyes, itchy face and skin, sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion and lethargy.
Things to avoid are foods which stimulate the production of mucus. This includes dairy products, refined food, processed food, alcohol and caffine. Try an alternative to dairy like goats milk, goats cheese, sheep milk, rice milk oat or soya milk. Or even better, try a herbal tea with added benefits.

What is a Life Coach… and Do I Need One?

6th July, 2009 by Mike

Whenever people ask me what I do as a Life Coach, my first response is to reply, ‘I help people unleash their potential’. More often than not I am met with intrigue, very inquiring looks or the response that, ‘Wow that’s a big job…tell me more’. Then ensues interrogative conversation about how I go about doing that. And, rightly so we would all like to be the best that we can be. People often think that a Life Coach is a posh/new name for a counsellor and comparisons to counsellors or advisors are made. Indeed this is far from the reality of coaching, as we deal with helping clients to set clear and realistic and achievable goals. Coaching does not delve into the client’s past, but works with a formula for dealing with what is going on in the present in order to have a desired future outcome.

Maintaining Your Summer Slim Down

29th June, 2009 by Mike

Based on my experience at the gym, I can tell you that there is a large number of people who realize around April that bathing suit season is quickly approaching. The gyms fill up for about three months with people hustling to lose their winter weight then dies back down again when summer hits. These are also the same people whose cookware has dust on it in the summer time because they are never around to cook at home. Fair enough, I understand first hand that summer is a busy time. I have to ask you though, why work so hard for those three months to achieve moderately good results, when you can maintain this summer slim down all year round? The results you receive will be far better then moderate I assure you that.

Massage and Getting to Know Your Body

22nd June, 2009 by Mike

Being in the complimentary health business is a very rewarding and satisfying area to work in. We all have a body and we all have the ability to look after and nurture our body but what I notice, through my work, is how people can become distanced from their real physical needs and lose touch with their body.

I do a range of treatments that hopefully can offer something suitable to a broad spectrum of people. The majority of my work is massage in the form of Aromatherapy, Hot Stone Treatments and also Indian Head Massage. I am also a practitioner of The Bowen Technique, which is a very light touch therapy that has a profound effect on a whole range of conditions from neck and back pain, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, asthma, migraine, constipation and lots more. It triggers or prompts the body’s own healing abilities in a subtle way that helps the body ‘to heal itself’. I also offer Reiki treatments – this works with our energy field and harnesses ‘Universal Energy’ to restore and rebalance our body.

The Power of Vegetables

15th June, 2009 by Mike

Vegetables are amazing foods, not only are they jam packed with vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants, but they are also rich in a particular type of nutrient called ‘phytochemicals’ which are specific to plant foods. These fascinating protective plant compounds have a health enhancing effect and help to protect us against a number of diseases such as heart disease and cancer just like they help to protect the plant from disease. Hundreds of different phytochemicals have been discovered in plant foods and are responsible for giving plants their colour, flavour and smell.
